World Environment Day Celebrated in Kraljevo

slike_047Kraljevo celebrates World Environment Day today as a part of the campaign "Let's Clean up Serbia". Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulić inspected the cleanup activities at the wild landfill in Kraljevo and visited a dog shelter. The Minister also met with the officials from Municipality of Kraljevo and talked about the environmental issues, urban planning and construction. Seven million RSD were allocated for the cleanup of the wild landfills in Kraljevo. It is planned that twenty-one wild landfills are going to be cleaned up before the celebration of 800 years of Žiča Monastery.

- Due to the moderate industrial activities, Kraljevo belongs to the municipalities with law water and air pollution but at the same time it faces the problem of underdeveloped system of waste collection services. There is a huge number of wild landfills in this town, as many as 21, and we shall clean them all up as a part of our campaign "Let's Clean up Serbia". The municipality of Kraljevo, as well as other municipalities, shall receive funds to execute public works. In addition, the purchase of equipment for public communal services is planned as well as the organization of the education program for the citizens - Minister Dulić said and promised that the Ministry shall support and help the running of the dog shelter.

He stressed that as much as 70 % of the Ministry's budget should be spent on boosting the capacities of the communal services and remarked that the current waste management situation was a very bad one. According to Minister Dulić the Parliament is currently discussing The Bill on Communal Police which in Minister's opinion is an excellent one. He also added that Serbia could obtain the waste water processing system in the next five or six years.
