Wild Landfill in Deliblato Sands Cleaned up

img_3077A wild landfill and several dumping sites were cleaned up today in the Deliblato Sands Special Natural Reserve as a part of the campaign "Let's Clean up Serbia". The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning in cooperation with the public company "Vojvodina Šume" have designed an equipment donation project to help efficient waste management in Vojvodina's protected areas. This project includes remediation of the wild landfill generated at Devojački Bunar site which belongs to the area of the Deliblato Sands Special Natural Reserve.

- There are seven wild landfills on the territory of this natural reserve generated by the negligence of the local population. In the following month the Ministry in cooperation with the trustees of the protected areas will intensify the cleanup of the wild landfills in the natural reserves and protected areas. We shall also do our best to prevent recurrence of the wild landfills and the new regulative, i.e. a set of 16 environmental laws shall help  implementation of the successful clean-up campaign - said Radislav Momirov, Assistant Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning
