WILD LANDFILL IN THE CENTRE OF BOLJEVAC CLEANED UP
BOLJEVAC Friday, 10th of April - operational part of the campaign Let’s Clean up Serbia has started on Friday, 10th of April by cleaning up wild landfill in the centre of Boljevac. Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Mr. Oliver Dulić said that thanks to this campaign as well as the diligent people living on the territory of Boljevac municipality who had designed an excellent project, the new city bathing resort with sports and recreational facilities would emerge on the site that had been earlier occupied by the wild landfill. This would significantly improve the quality of life for all the citizens.
In Boljevac municipality, there are wild landfills in approximately 40 locations. The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning set aside 9.5 million dinars to be used for purchasing new equipment and more than 20 containers. Additionally, one portion of these funds will be spent on public works that will hire approximately 10 workers. The holder of these activities will be Public Communal Enterprise Boljevac. Moreover, the landfill that was cleaned up on Friday was situated in the very centre of the town, since during the 90s Public Communal Company did not have sufficient funds to dispose of the waste elsewhere, thus such waste ended up on the riverbank and in the immediate vicinity of the medical centre in this town.
- I am glad to see that Boljevac municipality duly reacted and took an active part in the campaign “Let’s clean up Serbia”. Today we have started the physical cleanup of Serbia. Starting today, the Ministry, together with the local self-governments, will offer help for solving these problems. This action cannot be implemented without help of our citizens, nongovernmental organizations and citizens associations -said minister Dulić and appealed to the public to take not only an active part in the campaign Let’s clean up Serbia, but also to cultivate their backyards, gardens, houses and the environment.
He also reminded that the action will be implemented in 160 municipalities, as well as that a sum of approximately one million dinars will be spent on this campaign by the end of this year.
