Å trpce municipality most successful in "Big cleaning of Serbia" campaign

The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning declared Štrpce Municipality the most successful municipality in "Big Cleaning of Serbia" campaign, organized on Saturday, June 5th, 2010.

- As many as 15% of Štrpce citizens took part in the campaign on Saturday and gave their contribution to the "Big Cleaning of Serbia" campaign. I am very glad that a Kosovo and Metohija municipality, where people have a number of existential and other problems, was voted the most successful municipality in our campaign. In this way the citizens of Štrpce showed that care for the environment should not be put off for some better and much happier times. As a reward for their success the Ministry shall donate a new garbage truck to Štrpce Municipality - says the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Mr. Oliver Dulić.

According to Mr. Zvonko Mihajlović, President of the Municipality of Štrpce, this automated garbage truck will solve long-lasting problems in this municipality.

- Newly founded public utility company has only two garbage trucks that are more than 30 years old. The waste is transported 60 km from the territory of Štrpce municipality to the landfill, so it is just the matter of days when these trucks will break down. We are very grateful to Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Mr. Oliver Dulić and the Ministry for helping us solve waste management problems in our municipality - says Mr. Zvonko Mihajlović, President of Štrpce Municipality.

Mr. Mihajlović further stresses that the local self-government has excellent cooperation with public companies but also praises the participation of schools, Civil Protection Service, activists from the environmental association "Biseri Šare" and Štrpce citizens in the "Big Cleaning of Serbia" campaign.

More than 200,000 people all over the country took part in the "Big Cleaning of Serbia" campaign. The Ministry handed out 100,000 pairs of plastic gloves and 500,000 garbage bags to the participants in the campaign.

The Ministry would like to thank all those citizens who participated in the campaign as well as those who supported it.
