Setting up Environmental Management Center (EMC) in Serbia

centar"Setting up of the Environmental Management Center (EMC) in Serbia will enable efficient decision - making processes related to the environment and environmental issues that will be based on current and relevant information," said Mr. Oliver Dulić, Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning at the "Reporting for Sustainability" conference, held on May 19, 2011 in Belgrade and thus officially announced launching of the project "Setting up Environmental Management Center in Serbia".

"Once the Center is officially established, it will deal with important environmental issues and it will also provide information concerning the environment to all interested parties, primarily to the business sector. Our companies which have to adapt their production processes to meet new standards will have numerous benefits from establishment of this Center, since the Center will help them go through these processes quickly and efficiently and thus save them millions of dinars," said Minister Dulić.

According to the Minister, setting up of this institution is very important for the process of EU integrations.

The project "Setting up Environmental Management Center" is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency, Mr Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg Ambassador of Norway to Serbia pointed out that the aim of the Norwegian government is to support other countries in their efforts to improve the sustainable use of natural resources. The Environmental Management Center will be established as a part of the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and will soon start with its activities.

"Setting up Environmental Management Center in Serbia" is one of the most important projects in Serbia, as well as one of the major projects funded by the Norwegian government. The EMC is necessary for efficient monitoring of the state of the environment and it will improve communication between the business sector, environmental authorities and relevant EU institutions," said H.E., Mr Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg Ambassador of Norway to Serbia.
