New filters in RTB Bor Copper Mine
Two filters installed between the melting plant and the factory for manufacturing of sulfuric acid in RTB Bor were set in motion yesterday by the Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning Mr. Oliver Dulić as a part of the campaign "Let's Clean up Serbia".
By installing two wet electrofilters in RTB Bor plants sulphur dioxide air pollution will be reduced for 12%, because their utilization of such substance will be higher for the exactly the same percent during the copper processing. For the purpose of installing these filters the Environmental Protection Fund and The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning allocated 39 million dinars for the urgent reduction of air pollution in Bor.
- Bor is the most polluted town in the West Balkans where due to the outdated technology the concentration of the sulphur dioxide is the highest in Europe. We expect that the privatization of RTB Bor will change this situation, and that the employees who work in Bor mine would also benefit from this privatization. We hope that RTB Bor will become the company that would fulfill all ecological standards. In addition, the state would insist on fulfilling the ecological standards prescribed by the European Union - said minister Dulić.
By the end of the summer in the melting plant and in one part of the gas line that leads towards the factory for manufacturing of sulfuric acid two more dry electrostatic filters will be installed which will further increase the utilization of sulphur dioxide for more than 10 %.
Besides the urgent measures related to the reduction of the pollution in Bor, the Ministry will insist on the rigorous control of the environmental parameters in this city.
