200,000 people participaten in the Big cleaning of Serbia

ministriMore than 200,000 citizens of Serbia participated in the "Big Cleaning of Serbia ", marking the World Environment Day on June 5th. Schools, public companies, private enterprises, employees of public administration services, NGOs and citizens took part in this campaign.

- The first results of the campaign are amazing. We are very satisfied with the response from our citizens. Only three municipalities were not able to participate in the campaign, one of them is Trgovište municipality which was unable to join the campaign due to the state of emergency caused by the floods. To those who did not participate in the campaign I would like to send the message that we did the cleaning on their behalf, said Minister Dulić and announced that accurate data on the campaign results would be available as soon as all reports from municipalities reach the Ministry.

The campaign started with the cleanup of the public space surrounding the head offices of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning - Siv 3 building in New Belgrade. Slobodan Milosavljević - Minister of trade, tourism and services and Sulejman Ugljanin- Minister without portfolio lent a hand to the employees at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and jointly took part in the campaign.

The Ministry handed out 100,000 pairs of plastic gloves and 500,000 of garbage bags (yellow bags were used for recyclable waste, the black ones for other waste) to the participants in the campaign. Large quantities of the collected waste will be sent to the recycling centers where this waste shall be processed.

In the action of cleaning frontage roads that give access to Ibarska motorway, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Đilas, Milan Tlačinac president of Čukarica Municipality, actress Anica Dobra and actor Milan Živic, musicians Vlado Georgijev and Djule Van Gog, employees of Telekom Serbia, JKP Gradska čistoca , JKP Zelenilo Beograd and volunteers from Čukarica municipality wholeheartedly joined Minister Oliver Dulić . dete

JKP Putevi Srbije ordered all of its employees in charge of the maintenance of all public motorways and regional roads to clean up all illegal dumpsites, waste and other materials that are not allowed in the vicinity of the roads from the selected locations within their scope of duty.  The employees of PZP Belgrade cleaned up illegal dumpsite from the location on Ibarska motorway at the turn for Železnik.           

During his visit to secondary technical school "23 Maj" in Pančevo where the first generation of recycling technicians is being educated, Minister Dulić stressed the great importance of schools' participation in the campaign and announced that similar environmental campaigns would be organized every year. He also pointed out that the job positions would be secured for all future recycling technicians thanks to the development of the recycling industry in Serbia. The Minister of Education, Mr Žarko Obradović said that the Ministry of Education was very happy to organize the participation of schools in the "Big Cleaning of Serbia" campaign.

About 6,000 participants in the campaign cleaned up the streets, squares, schools, playgrounds and other public spaces on the territory of the city of Novi Sad.

The volunteers of BELS movement from Ada Ciganlija collected 100 garbage bags of solid waste from the motorway leading to Makiš.

Telekom Srbija joined the "Big Cleaning of Serbia" through participation of its 1,500 employees in the campaign. This company also announced that in the near future they would provide cameras for the video surveillance of landfills.

Hundreds of employees of Železnice Srbije Company participated in the campaign, as well as the officers and cadets from the Military academy in Belgrade.

The landfills were cleaned up by the convicts from several Institutions for the Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions.

pancevoMinister Dulić thanked all those citizens who participated in the "Big Cleaning of Serbia."

-They showed the best way to love one's country - this is the true patriotism to stand up for your country, to work in it, to protect it and make it clean and healthy. In the future everyone should take care where they dispose of waste- concluded Minister Dulić. Dulić announced that the communal police shall start working soon and that the adoption of the Law on communal services is expected, which shall further regulate inspection services.
